Who does what

Your roofer, your insurer and you

Texas law draws a clear line: a contractor doing the work on your roof can’t act as your public adjuster. Here’s how that plays out.

Power Roofing Systems

  • File your claim for you — you (the policyholder) file it with your insurer
  • Negotiate your settlement or speak for you as your adjuster
  • Inspect your roof for free and tell you what we see
  • Document the damage we find
  • Explain, in plain English, how the insurance claim process generally works
  • Answer questions about the roof work itself: scope, materials and timing

You, the policyholder

  • File the claim with your insurance company
  • Talk with your insurer and its adjuster
  • Decide who does the work

What we don’t do

  • Promise what your insurance company will decide
  • Waive, rebate or cover your deductible — that’s illegal in Texas

Checklist

After a storm: a practical checklist

General steps many homeowners find useful. Always follow your insurer’s instructions and put safety first.

  1. Stay safe. Don’t climb onto a damaged roof. Keep clear of downed lines and debris.
  2. Note what you can see from the ground and inside: stains, drips, debris, damaged gutters. Take photos with dates if it’s safe.
  3. Read your policy or call your insurer to understand your coverage and deadlines.
  4. Get a roof inspection so you know what’s actually damaged. Ours is free.
  5. File your claim with your insurer if you decide to. We can explain how the process generally works.
  6. Watch for red flags, like anyone offering to cover your deductible. That’s illegal in Texas.

Questions

Insurance questions

Will you file my insurance claim?

No. In Texas, a contractor doing the work on your roof can’t act as your public adjuster, file your claim or negotiate your settlement. We can inspect and document the damage and explain how the process works; you file the claim and deal with your insurer. The Texas Department of Insurance explains the rules on its Roofing and insurance: Know the law page.

Can you cover my deductible?

No. It’s illegal in Texas for a contractor to offer to waive, rebate or absorb a policyholder’s deductible. Be cautious of anyone who offers.
